FAQ 44: Was Jesus Guilty Of Calling People Fools?

Let’s look about that. Turn in your King James Bible to Matthew chapter 23. We’re not going to go through the whole chapter together, but we have two times where Jesus definitely called the Pharisees, Scribes and religious leaders at the time, these corrupt religious leaders, he called them fools.

A contention that people often bring up is in Matthew 5:22. The thing there is people say, “Well, Jesus called people fools therefore he’s in danger of Hellfire.” But you see the special little Clause there, it says “without a cause.” Did Jesus have cause to attack the Scribes and Pharisees? Yes He did; they were trying to act like they were God’s men and they were damning people to Hell through religious traditions, much like the Catholics do today.
